19-20 november 2021: Call for ‘Young Classics’ Symposium Speakers
Do you still have a good paper or thesis on a dusty shelf that would be a shame if it were left there? Or do you have a brilliant idea that you’ve never had the chance to develop? Then you are the person we are looking for. On Friday 19 and Saturday 20 November, the second Symposium for Jonge Classici will take place in Nijmegen, organized by Sophia Aeterna, study association GLTC in Leiden, and Sodalicium Classicum Noviomagense, study association GLTC in Nijmegen. For Saturday we are looking for enthusiastic students who would like to speak here.
It is organized by and for young classicists and for this edition we have chosen the theme “Travel in and to Antiquity”. We hope this will provide an accessible platform for bachelor and master students to give a lecture and to attend lectures. Moreover, it is an ideal opportunity to get to know young classicists from all over the Netherlands and Flanders and to exchange experiences and knowledge.
At the symposium there will be room for 8 student speakers, who will each give a lecture of 30 minutes, followed by about 10 minutes for questions. On this day, two PhD students will also give a lecture in relation to their PhD research. The students are warmly encouraged to join the theme, but this is certainly not an obligation. The theme can be interpreted very broadly. The language of instruction will be Dutch, but speakers are also free to give a lecture in English.
Would you like to give one of these lectures at this new symposium? Register before June 30 by sending an email to this email address (symposium.sophiaaeterna@gmail.com), stating your name, university and a (very) brief explanation of the intended subject. We hope to receive speakers from as many classic university cities as possible in Nijmegen!
Sincerely,
The members of the Symposium Committe for Sophia Aeterna and Sodalicium Classicum,
Tijn Brands
