May 2021
Dear Teiresians,
We are slowly working our way through the final weeks of what has been a rather strange academic year at Utrecht University (and the world). Some of you may already be back in actual classrooms enjoying the lectures by your favourite teachers, others may still be stuck at home watching your screen and yet others have been working on their thesis for a while now (we would like to wish all of them the best of luck with this). We very much hope we can slowly go back to the way things were in the coming months, so we can start all of our usual events back up again! We are finally able to meet again in person this month, at the city walk with drinks in the city after, organised by our very own travel committee!
New Discoveries Seminar
After a very successful first lecture and discussion with Professor Kyle Harper we shall continue the series with a lecture by Professor Rebekah Ahrendt themed: Reading the Unread: Unlocking History Through Automated Virtual Unfolding of Sealed Documents using New X-Ray Technologies! We hope to see you all there, it should be a very exciting lecture!
These seminars are organised by the department as well, more information can be found on https://newdiscoveries.sites.uu.nl/.
Travel Committee City Walk
May 29th, the Travel Committee will take you on a city walk through Utrecht. In small groups, each accompanied by a teacher, we will come across the secret pearls of the history of Utrecht. Our teachers will tell us more about our interesting city, either in real life or through a video. The walk will take from around 13:00-16:00 and will hopefully if the covid-measures allow it, end in an actual borrel! If you’re enthusiastic you can come around 12:00 and get lunch with us (who doesn’t like a broodje Mario?). Afterwards, there will be time to have a few drinks and snacks together on a terrace in the city (first round is on us!) The activity is FREE of charge, but we would like to know whether you’d be interested so please send one of us a text or shoot us a message at reiscommissie.teiresias@outlook.com.
Waterloo Uncovered Course
We would like to draw your attention to the upcoming course on battlefield archaeology near Waterloo, offered by Utrecht University and Waterloo Uncovered. For more information and details about signing up for this fun course, please see the flyer.
