Newsletter January 2022

Dear members of Teiresias,

We hope you have all had a wonderful break and/or Christmas and a good start to 2022 despite the various Covid-19 restrictions announced by the Dutch government on 18 December. We know the past year has been challenging for many of you and thus we would like to take this opportunity to wish you courage and love for the coming year! Hopefully we will soon be able to meet with you face to face again and enjoy a drink (or two) at Café de Stadsgenoot together! For now, we would like to update you on the upcoming Teiresias activities.

Update Visit Emperor Domitian RMO Exhibit on Thursday, 13 January

Firstly, we are sad to announce that our visit to the Emperor Domitian Exhibit at the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden with Dr. Saskia Stevens on Thursday 13 January will have to be postponed because of Covid-19 restrictions. However, when museums re-open to visitors, Teiresias’ Education Committee will select a new date for this event. If you have not signed up for the event yet, please do so by sending an e-mail to onderwijscommissie.teiresias@gmail.com, to ensure you receive new updates in due time.

New Discoveries Seminar on Thursday, January 20 at 16:00

Secondly, we would like to draw your attention to the upcoming New Discoveries Seminar on 20 January. Dr. Pieter Houten from the University of Hamburg will be giving a lecture with the title: The Epigraphic Culture of Small Towns: A Spatial Data Analysis. For more information and to register see: www.newdiscoveries.sites.uu.nl.

Destination of Teiresias’ Annual Trip Finally Revealed!

Thirdly, behind the scenes Teiresias’ Travel Committee is preparing for our annual trip. As you all know, they have been giving us clues to the destination over on Teiresias’ Instagram for the past weeks. Now they can finally reveal that the destination of our 2022 trip will be Catania, Sicily! The Committee will soon provide more information, so keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram and the upcoming newsletters.

And with that we would like to end our first newsletter of 2022! We are looking forward to welcoming you at one of our events in 2022 soon when restrictions permit!

Valete on behalf of the board,
