Nieuwsbrief/Newsletter 09-2020

Beste Teiresianen,

Ten eerste van harte welkom aan onze nieuwe leden, zowel afkomstig uit de bachelor als de master! We zijn hard bezig geweest met het plannen van de eerste evenementen, maar voor we jullie lekker maken voor de evenementen willen we graag twee zaken herhalen.

Ten eerste de uitbreiding van onze vereniging naar de studenten van de gehele RMA master. Naast de Ancient track zijn ook de studenten die de Insular, Renaissance en Medieval tracks volgen vanaf nu welkom bij Teiresias! Dit is gebeurd in overleg met verschillende docenten van de master en zal in de komende tijd vooral tot uiting komen in de filmavonden en andere activiteiten.

Ten tweede op het gebied van studieboeken. We hebben door onze overeenkomst met Athenaeum boekhandels in Amsterdam korting op de studieboeken voor de eerste twee blokken. De boeken zijn met de code SVTEI2021 te bestellen op de website van Athenaeum. Deze code is ook te vinden op onze website onder het kopje ‘nieuws’.

Evenementen

Het eerste evenement van dit jaar zal een filmavond zijn! We zijn hard bezig om een ruimte te bemachtigen op de universiteit. We hopen jullie in de komende dagen een locatie te kunnen sturen. Mocht dit niet lukken zullen we dit, net als afgelopen jaar, in de vorm van een Netflix Party doen. De filmavond zal op dinsdag 22 september plaatsvinden en de film die we bekijken is Monty Python & the Holy Grail!

Op donderdag 1 oktober zal de eerste borrel van het jaar plaatsvinden in ons stamcafé, de Stadsgenoot! We zijn erg blij dat we elkaar weer kunnen ontmoeten, maar hier zijn uiteraard regels voor vanuit de UU en het RIVM. Onderaan deze nieuwsbrief staan de regels voor dit evenement uitgelegd.

In oktober zullen we een PhD event organiseren. Ook hiervoor zijn we nog bezig met het zoeken naar een locatie, informatie zal volgen! Bijgevoegd vinden jullie de flyer voor dit evenement, waarin staat uitgelegd wat er die dag op het programma staat!

Informatie over de borrel

Elke eerste donderdag van de maand om 20:00 zullen we, zoals gewoonlijk, weer beginnen met de maandelijkse borrel. We hopen jullie uiteraard allemaal te zien op 1 oktober!

Door COVID-19 zijn we verplicht ons te houden aan enkele maatregelen.

In het geval dat je koorts en/of moeite met ademhalen of benauwdheid hebt, moet je helaas thuisblijven. Kijk ook op https://www.rivm.nl/en/novel-coronavirus-covid-19 voor de precieze richtlijnen.

Er geldt een maximum van 4 personen per tafel in de Stadsgenoot.

Het is helaas niet toegestaan om van tafel of stoel te wisselen na het begin van de borrel.

Staand socialisen is binnen niet toegestaan.

Bij het niet volgen van deze regels moeten wij als verantwoordelijken, je helaas vragen te vertrekken.

We hopen en verwachten dat iedereen zich gewoon aan de regels houdt zodat we elkaar weer elke maand kunnen zien bij de borrel!

Na 23:00 zal het evenement officieel voorbij zijn en zullen wij als bestuur vertrekken. De plekken in de Stadsgenoot zijn voor onze borrel gereserveerd, dus als je op tijd komt kun je zo lang mogelijk genieten van de borrel!

Wellicht ten overvloede, maar we willen jullie vragen om te allen tijde 1,5 meter afstand te houden tot elkaar, tenzij je uit hetzelfde huishouden afkomstig bent!

Dear Teiresians,

First of all, we would like to welcome our new members, from the bachelor’s as well as our master’s programme! We have been working on the first events of this academic year, but before I tell you all about those, a few reminders for our new members and anyone who missed our last emails.

In previous years, Teiresias Student Association has been ancient history oriented and focused on providing events and education geared towards ancient historians. We would like to share with you the positive announcement that Teiresias is expanding its scope, events, and educational opportunities to happily welcome and include all RMA master’s students and all bachelor students interested in Renaissance, Medieval, Insular, and Ancient studies. This means extending the monthly drinks invitation to the above-mentioned students as well as providing a few events and educational related activities that are also inclusive of medieval and renaissance periods. We welcome you all!

Through our partnership with Athenaeum Bookstore located in Amsterdam, we have arranged a discount on study related books. Events

The first event of this academic year will be a movie night! We are working on securing a room at the university to host this event. We hope to inform you in the following days about the location. If we are not allowed to host at the university, we will host it as we did last year, in the form of a Netflix Party. It will be held on the 22nd of September, the movie we will be watching is Monty Python & the Holy Grail!

On Thursday October 1st our first monthly borrel of the year will be held in Cafe de Stadsgenoot! We are very happy to be able to meet everyone face-to-face again, but of course there are university and RIVM rules to abide by. At the bottom of this newsletter you will find them explained shortly.

In October, date to be announced, we will organise a PhD event. For this event we are also speaking to the university about getting a venue, so information on the exact date and location will follow! Attached you will find the flyer for this event, with information on the programme for the evening!

Info for Borrel at Cafe de Stadsgenoot

We are happy to announce the startup of our monthly borrels at Stadgenoot, which will be the first Thursday of every month at 20:00. Please join us on October 1!

Due to COVID-19, there are regulations that must be adhered to at all times.

If you have a fever and/or difficulty breathing, you must stay at home. See https://www.rivm.nl/en/novel-coronavirus-covid-19 for more information.

Four people maximum to a table

No changing seats or tables

No standing mingling inside

You will be asked to leave, if you cannot adhere to these rules.

Please follow the rules so we can continue to have our monthly borrels.

After 23:00, this is no longer a Teiresias event and the board members will leave the premises. We have a selected amount of seats reserved, so we suggest that you arrive timely, or as close to 20:00, to enjoy the full amount of time allotted with the group.

Please remember to always maintain a 1,5 meter from others unless you are of the same household.
